Healing

Good health is the aim of any sensible human being! If we lose good health, then it is with us most all of the time. Healing is what we seek when we feel our health is less than perfect, and in a world with billions of people, perfect health is a difficult thing to achieve for everyone, all of the time!

Physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health are all important aspects of being a whole and healthy person. Doctors and health practitioners are increasingly aware a holistic approach to health has many benefits. No longer is health just about taking pills to treat symptoms. Now, most health practitioners recognise prevention is as important, if not more important than cure. And Western and Eastern traditions to health are growing ever closer, as the benefits of both are integrated to form unified unified approach to making people feel better.

There are many forms of healing available to us- from Reiki, to acupuncture, from Spiritualist healing to aromatherapy massage, the list is long, and the results are varied.

REIKI

Reiki is a popular form of healing, based on Tibetan techniques to achieve a healthy mind and body. Drawing on a universal energy known as Reiki, a Reiki practitioner will place their hands upon a recipient's body, in various positions, and act as a conduit to allow Reiki energy to flow to the recipient's body, to be used where most needed. This energy is thought to be a universally available energy, rather than the energy of the particular person who is laying on their hands, and in order to practise Reiki, it's necessary to attend a course and be attuned to the Reiki energy which is central to this form of healing.

There are usually three levels to Reiki, and in order to be able to initiate and teach Reiki it's necessary to take all three levels, to become what is known as a Reiki Master. But even learning the first level of Reiki is useful, allowing us to practise calming and relaxing Reiki on ourselves. At the second stage of Reiki we learn symbols which attune us more closely with Reiki energy and allow us to practise effectively on others. We also learn how to heal from a distance, what is known as absent healing'.

Reiki participants usually choose to adhere to the five principles of Reiki which are:

Just for today, do not anger.
Just for today, do not worry.
Honour your teachers, parents and elders.
Earn your living honestly.
Show respect to every living thing.

It is believed that if we all  followed these principles, much of the cause of illness in the world can be avoided. And since we can't change everyone else, we must start by changing ourselves!

Crystal Healing

Crystal Healing is based on the principle that crystals have properties that aid healing and promote health in living beings. By following procedures to cleanse a crystal, attune an individual to it, who then wears or carries the crystal, improvements are thought to follow in the person's health, on many levels.

There are many forms of crystals, different types having different energies, and being used for different health issues, of mind and body. Crystals are also used differently by different crystal healers, depending on their methods of healing. Some will place various crystals on the body, while they work on a person's energy with their hands, either placing their hands in the person's aura, that surrounds their physical body, or by placing hands directly on the body. Other crystal healers will cleanse a crystal in water, or in earth, and then allow the individual to wear the crystal until the person and the crystal become attuned. the crystal or crystals will have been picked specifically for the person depending on which issue relating to their health they want to affect.


Spiritual Healing

Spiritual healing is when a healer works to heal someone on the spiritual level. Usually this will involve laying hands upon a person, praying to guides and spirits to heal the recipient and working on a person's spiritual life to bring about change that will improve their health. Many spiritual healers are also mediums, or work with a person's aura, to clear away what they perceive to be blockages, or dark energy that either cause an illness, or are a result of the recipient's life, actions, feelings, thoughts, and things that have happened to them in their past. Sometimes we hear the phrase 'faith healing' which is in a way, very similar to spiritual healing, but perhaps not exactly the same, in that the method the faith healer uses may not be the same methods that a spiritual healer will use to bring about healing.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture involves inserting needles into the body, at particularly usually pre-defined points, leading to various benefits including anaesthesia, relief of pain, and improved healing times. Acupuncture has been used for millennia in China and the Far East as a crucial part of their medicine. Based on the idea that the body consists of a system of energy, with meridians or lines of this energy running throughout the body. Sometimes, these meridians become blocked or sluggish and by inserting needles of different materials into specific pressure points along these meridians, results can be achieved to assist in the illnesses that have manifested because of the poor flowing energy. Acupuncture us used widely in the West now too, and is often used in conjunction with acupressure, where pressure is applied to the same pressure points but without the use of needles, and Chinese herbalism, where different naturally occurring ingredients are mixed and used to achieve improvements in health and healing of existing ailments.

It takes many years to study as a qualified acupuncturist, and there is a growing interest in the West, such that many Westerners study it and consider it to be a serious vocation.
